DfES

The Department for Education & Skills (DfES) (www.teachernet.gov.uk/wholeschool/sen/parentcarers) produces a guide for Parents and Carers. This guide aims to help you understand:

  • What Special Education Needs are
  • What you can do if you are worried that your child may be having difficulties at, or before, they go to school
  • How you can help your child
  • What early education settings and schools can do to help your child
  • What local education authorise and other services can do to help your child
  • Your rights and your child’s rights

The DfES also produce a range of leaflets to help parents called the 'Help Your Child to Learn' series. These are listed below:
